The Best Fireworks Displays Huntington Township

Living Long Island Melissa Infanzon June 25, 2026

There's something magical about the 4th of July on the North Shore.

The smell of sunscreen and charcoal, kids running around with glow sticks, grabbing pizza to-go and heading to the beach before the sun sets. While many Long Islanders automatically think of Jones Beach for fireworks, some of the best spots are right here in Huntington Township.

If you're looking to skip the traffic and enjoy a more laid-back celebration, these are the places locals return to year after year.

Geisslers Beach Park, Fort Salonga

Best for: Firework fanatics

Tucked away off Makamah Road, Geissler's Beach isn't the place for a big crowd or an organized fireworks show, and that's exactly what makes it special.

This quiet stretch along the Long Island Sound offers an incredibly peaceful setting to watch fireworks sparkling in the distance across the water. Neighbors of Geisslers Beach put on a 2+ hour firework display which makes this perfect the true fireworks lovers.

The best part - it is worlds away from the traffic and crowds. Geissler's is technically a fishing-access beach maintained by the Town of Huntington rather than a traditional bathing beach, which actually adds to its hidden, low-key feel.

Local tip: Bring low beach chairs and a flashlight for the walk back to your car. Since this is one of the quieter beaches in town, it's perfect for couples, families with older kids, or anyone looking for a laid-back evening under the stars.

Insider tip: Arrive before sunset and stay after the fireworks end. The sunset views over the Sound are spectacular and the peaceful atmosphere afterward is part of what makes Geissler's so special.

Crab Meadow Beach, Northport

Best for: Families with young kids

Pack up some blankets, grab a few slices of pizza, and let the kids get one last playground visit in before settling onto the sand.

While you're not directly under a major fireworks display, you'll often catch multiple shows lighting up the sky across the Sound, and the beach itself feels like a Fourth of July movie scene.

Local tip: Arrive about an hour before sunset. Parking fills quickly and the beach is just as much about the atmosphere as the fireworks.

Gold Star Battalion Beach, Huntington

Best for: Avoiding the crowds

This spot has a quieter, neighborhood feel and offers beautiful water views without the chaos of some larger destinations.

It's perfect for those who want a relaxed evening and don't necessarily need to be in the middle of a big production.

Local tip: Bring chairs and a cooler. This is the kind of place where families settle in for the entire evening.

Centerport Beach

Best for: A classic North Shore summer night

Centerport feels like old Long Island in the best possible way. The harbor setting is beautiful and the atmosphere is relaxed and family-friendly.

Even if the fireworks are happening somewhere else, you'll still catch plenty of distant displays over the water.

Local tip: Pick up dinner beforehand and make it a picnic. Sunset here is almost worth the trip on its own.

Sunken Meadow State Park Boardwalk

Best for: The scenic experience

If your idea of a perfect July evening includes a sunset walk, ocean breeze, and fireworks in the distance, this is your spot.

You won't have front-row seats to a major display, but you'll get something equally special: a panoramic view of several neighboring fireworks shows with plenty of space to spread out.

Local tip: Stay after the fireworks. The boardwalk at night is one of the most peaceful places on the North Shore.

Hobart Beach, Eaton's Neck

Best for: The hidden gem seekers

For those willing to venture a little farther, Eaton's Neck offers some incredible vantage points over the water to enjoy the Asharoken firework display.

It's quieter, less crowded, and feels like one of those places only locals know about.

Local tip: Bring a flashlight for the walk back to your car and enjoy the stars once the fireworks are over.

A Few Insider Tips

  • After 5:00 PM, entry to Huntington Town beaches is typically limited to town residents on a space-available basis.
  • Bring glow sticks for the kids. They're easier to spot in the dark.
  • Pack a sweatshirt. Even hot July days can end with a cool breeze off the water.
  • Download your music and directions before you leave because service can be spotty near the beaches.
  • Consider bringing takeout instead of cooking.
  • Don't rush out the minute the fireworks end. The traffic always clears faster than you'd think, and some of the best moments are the ones spent lingering under the stars.

One of the things I love most about Huntington Township is that we don't need huge productions to create memorable summer nights. Sometimes all you need is a blanket, a good view of the water, and a few fireworks reflecting across the Sound.

Happy 4th of July, Huntington.
